How would one go about swapping to a new bigger hard drive from an older full one, is it possible to basically clone the old one onto the new one?

Why don't you just burn your porno videos onto DVDs before you download more? Then you won't need a new hard drive.

Are you out of physical expansion slots? Just have an additional HD?

My boss wants to upgrade our storage computer to a bigger drive, don't ask me why, if it was me, I'd just add another drive.

Well... I suppose you could get a RAID card, setup mirroring, and once the newer HD has been mirriored, turn off the RAID1 setup (As you'd be limited to the size of the smaller drive). That seems like a lot of effort (and $$ for a RAID controller) for that shit though.

There's probably a way to make an "image" of the current HD, and transfer it to the new one too.

You would have to use something to image it. Norton ghost or something maybe... it's been a while.

In theory you should be able to set is as a slave device. Use some sort of backup software or imaging or maybe partition magic to copy the MBR and partition from the master to the slave. And then turn the pc off and swap out the master with the slave device(not sure if you still need to set jumper on drives these days)

Which of course begs the question as to why your boss doesn't just add a drive, and not worry about this stuff.

I would use Ghost, but you're going to need another place to place the image since it sounds like the current drive is too full. Then once the image is created, swap in the new drive and blow the image back to the drive.

Does the current disk hold pretty much everything (OS & other software), or does it just store business files and what-have-you (porn)?

I don't think he's got the expansion bays for it. I would use Ghost, but you're going to need another place to place the image since it sounds like the current drive is too full. Then once the image is created, swap in the new drive and blow the image back to the drive.
That's what I told him, I think he found some shitty knockoff for $30, he saved $40! Does the current disk hold pretty much everything (OS & other software), or does it just store business files and what-have-you (porn)?

OS, BS and files. It probably would be much better to just plug an external into the usb port. It will save time and money. What kind of shitty PC case doesn't have room for a second drive?

If you go back to XP, you won't be able to use all 4GB of RAM, as it's only 32-bit. (I've read that XP 64-bit kinda sucks)
I'm actually quite pleased with Windows 7 (Beta) so far. It runs just as fast, if not faster, than XP on my machine. I may actually get it when it offically gets released. At least to keep a 64-bit OS on my system.

Yeah a nas device would be good, but that's more like a file server. That's more for like a shared storage area.
Nye did say it was a "storage computer" If that's really all it does, a NAS could replace the whole computer.
