Sean and Jon - what breweries would you guys like to check out?

Is anybody else (besides Paco, Bull, Sean, Jon, Bryce and myself) gonna be interested in doing this?

I'm interested in going to a brewery and getting loaded, but not in driving around to a bunch of different places. That seems unsafe.

I think I'm down with the BBQ part.
The breweries part is more iffy... (not sure if I wanna spend the $$$).

Ugh. The plan wasn't to go to the breweries and drink there (aside from maybe some sampling), but to go to 3 different breweries, buy some growlers and then go back to my place and BBQ.

Also, to clarify, there is no actual "touring these breweries" planned, I guess the name is confusing.

I just took the shortcut around the back of Iron City last night, and they are starting to tear down part of the brewery.

aside from maybe some sampling

I don't sample unless it's accompanied by pissing in a portable toilet or the back wall of a parking garage, and I don't want to go all Matt Spaeth in some parking lot.

So I'm guessing they couldn't get horistorical building status for it then.  That's really sad.

I don't think that they are touching the older buildings along Liberty or under the bridge that goes to Polish Hill, just the more modern buildings along Sassafras St

I don't think you understand the concept, it's more like you're going around to buy different beers at different places, then going and chilling at Nicks house.  So why do you you just go to Nicks house once they get there instead of being a bitch.

Because I don't really feel like driving all over pittsbugh to drink beers I have already had or to purchase them. But yes you are right. If anything I would just bring some beer and show up at Nick's once they got there. But they might all be shit faced by then and since I'll be sober it will be annoying. lol

I think your confused, or am I.  It's pretty simple.  I pick a brewery, like Rock Bottom (not that I would pick that one, because I don't go to the Waterfront, EVER).  So, I go there, I buy a growler.  I go to Nicks, where we all meet up and share growlers.  Right?  How hard is that?

I thoguth he wanted everyone to go to them all together 1 at a time. Have samples. Get growlers of what we like, drive to the next and then go to his house after all of those to continue drinking them. But in reality you could do whatever you like.

Yeah I think that due to the varying places people want to go to, I'm just gonna go ahead and say that I am gonna to these three places at so and so time (I haven't decided which ones yet) and if people want to come with me, that's cool. And then everyone can come over to my place anytime after 6 PM or so. I thought it would be cool if people went together as a group, but after some thought its just too much work trying to get everyone organized.

So yeah it's really just like we're having a party/BBQ on that evening/night, which you're all welcome to come to and BYOB (though I'm sure we'll have some PBR or Yuengling as a backup for you non-fancypantses), and separate from that I'm gonna go to some breweries sometime in the afternoon and get growlers.

As a side note: I would definitely be interested in a trip up to North Country Brewing on a Saturday this spring.

Calm down, Sensitive Sam...  It's not a pain getting us organized, but I think we are all a bit confused about the rules of the game.  As stated, I thought we were all bringing over different growlers for a tasting of sorts.  But, I agree with Bull that perhaps the breweries are a bit too far apart to hit up a few in one day.  Even with the wing tour, we generally kept to one area.

That said, I'm down for whatever.  And a trip to NCB is always a good idea to me.  I'd also like to take a drive out to Ohio sometime and hit up Hoppin Frog brewing.  And there's always the St Mary's trip we talk about every year and never do.

So two different things are going on Saturday April 10th

"Brewery Tour"
I'm gonna head out to visit some breweries and get some growlers to enjoy later on in the evening. I decided on East End (it seems like everyone wanted to go there anyways), Church Brew Works, and Fathead's. Rivertowne Pour House in Monroeville just might be a brewery too far the more that I think about it. I'm gonna start at East End, then head over to Church Brew Works, then go to Fathead's. If folks want to meet me at my house I'm probably gonna be leaving there at 2 PM. Or if people want to meet me at East End I should be there around 2:30 PM.

I don't agree with some of the routes selected between locations, but here's a map of the three places - http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=East+End+Brewing&daddr=Church+Brew+Works+to:Fathead%27s&geocode=FStNaQIdUsI8-yErd7bZ2qq3BinjAx3G7O00iDFtRjE2Nwcgtg%3B%3B&hl=en&mra=ls&sll=40.445118,-79.942274&sspn=0.048859,0.077162&ie=UTF8&ll=40.446033,-79.942274&spn=0.048858,0.077162&z=14

And here are some details about the breweries themselves -

East End Brewing (Will only fill East End or Steel City Uni-Growler)
http://www.eastendbrewing.com/
Saturday Hours - 12PM - 5PM
Growler (filled) - $13 - 16
Growler Refills - $10 - 13
6923 Susquehanna St
Pittsburgh, PA 15208

Church Brew Works (Will fill any growler)
http://www.churchbrew.com/
Growler (filled) - $12 - 16
Growler Refills - A bit cheaper
3525 Liberty Ave
Pittsburgh, PA 15201

Fathead's Saloon (Will only fill Fathead's or Steel City Uni-Growler)
http://www.fatheads.com/
Growler (filled) - ?
Growler Refills - $15 Avg.
1805 East Carson St
Pittsburgh PA 15203

BBQ/Party
7:00 PM (and anytime after) - We're having our first BBQ/Party at our new place on Balph. We will have some snacks and will be grilling some burgers / hot dogs / whathaveyou. We'll have some beer (PBR or Yuengling most likely) but if you want anything fancy - BYOB. More specifically, if you got a chance to do the "Brewery Tour" - BYOG.  You're all invited to come on over.
