Would folks be interested in renting out a cabin for a weekend (probably more like two actually) - like that weekend we went to Terra Alta for Sarah's birthday (which was awesome and very well planned out btw, Mr. I-Hate-Organizing) - maybe sometime this fall?

We're renting one with Liz's family for Thanksgiving, so I'll give you all of the links that she came up with and maybe save you some time.

Wow it looks like most the sites up around the area want 30 bucks just to set up a tent. The cheapest one I found so far is this.

http://hemlockrestcabins.cookforest.com/

this place offers two tents per site for 18 bucks. But you have to get a two day minimum on the weekend and looks nicer. But man check out all thos rules! http://www.cookforestcampground.com/rates.htm

I don't know.  Those rules don't sound that bad.  Pretty much don't leave your garbage or make a lot of noise.  I think you'll find that almost anywhere.

I guess it depends on how "extreme" they want to take it. That being said, that campground is right in the middle of cooks forest right next to the entrance to the canoe rental areas.

Is anyone interested in spending a night or two up there this weekend? I was thinking about driving up friday setting up camp and then going to dinner at volwinkle. Sat going to get breakfast and then going to the river. I think the river will be too low for canoing. We could also then check out some shops, bumper boats, water slides, go-karts or hike and check out the fire tower or the deer ranch or something.

As for cabins this place sleeps 8

http://www.tophillcabins.com/sunburst_locust_cabin_2.htm

and is 185 per night for the weekend. that's 46.25 a person for the entire weekend. Seems to allow dogs too. Though that might be a lot of dogs...

This weekend definitely won't work for me.  I unfortunately am broke at the moment.  Summer just seems to go by way too fast every year, but hopefully I can squeeze at least one more small trip in before it's over.

Yeah this weekend (and really any until after the wedding) wouldn't work for me.

I was thinking maybe the weekend of 10/8 -10/10. We wouldn't have to worry about snow or anything at that point and we wouldn't be rushing back to see any Steelers game either. Or maybe 11/5 - 11/7? Or even 11/12 - 11/14?

I like the idea of location being somewhere in the Laurel Highlands (it seems all those links Fitty posted were based around there). Even if we went somewhere else, like back down to Terra Alta or up north somewhere - traveling past mid-late November starts to tempt fate with the weather.

While I like the idea of a Vowinkle trip, the camping experience might be a little too much $$ for right now.  A full single-day trip, capped with a diner there is more possible...

But man check out all those rules! http://www.cookforestcampground.com/rates.htm

I'm not quite sure what Rule #17 means.

Other than that, the rules seem pretty reasonable.  Kind of like Paddlers' Lane, but this place seems like it might be a little more strict on hours & shit. (Looks like they wouldn't tolerate a bunch of cars coming back @ 2-2:30 in the morning from the bar)

I think rule 17 means if you get a cabin, you can't pay the price and then expect to jam 12 people in it.

My mom and step dad got a cabin over the 4th just to the north of the bridge by Cooksburg there past the canoe/tube rental place that was pretty nice, it's in the state park and they havn't had enough money to keep up all of the cabins so there was a run down cabin between us and the nearest neighbors, which was nice.  Then it's just down the road to get to the canoe/tube/raft place that will truck you up the river 2-4 miles and the float down the clarion is superb.  I recommend it!

With the wedding over with and me needing something to plan, I guess I'll try to get some stuff organized with this -

Let me know:

1) If you're interested in going

2) When you would be able to go. After talking to a few people, it looks like the first weekend in November would be bad... So how do people feel about 10/8 - 10/10 or 11/12 - 11/14?

3) Where we want to go (general area - like Terra Alta again or somewhere in the Laurel Highlands)?

1) indeed.™

2) 11/12 - 11/14

3) No preference. It might be nice to get a place w/ a pool table, hot tub, or something else besides just a big TV.

I did some preliminary research yesterday and here's what I came up with

Laurel Highlands Area

http://www.mountainplayhouse.org/hc/ - Booked for the two aforementioned dates
http://www.stonewoodlodge.com/ - One lodge / hotel, not ideal for a group
http://www.polymathpark.com/ - Too fancy / expensive, not ideal
http://www.trillium-lodge.com/ - Whole lodge is $800 per night, too expensive IMHO
http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/parks/laurelhill/laurelhilllodge.aspx#bring - $284.91 per night, sleeps 14, BUT Alcoholic beverages are prohibited...
http://www.tophillcabins.com/sunburst_locust_cabin_2.htm - Booked for the two aforementioned dates

http://www.usrecreationalproperties.com/content/properties/laurel-highlands-pa.php | http://www.vrbo.com/225738 | - $750 per night (only available for november date) (sleeps 16-18) (has a pool table)
http://www.pennscenicview.com/cabins.htm - Could be doable depending on how many people are interested. Cabins that sleep 4-6 people are around $160 per night

Terra Alta
http://www.clutterrealty.com/rentalhomes.htm - This is where the cabin that we went to last year is at.

While none of the places in Terra Alta have a pool table, they are the best value (nicest layouts, furnishings) for money spent, the prices per night range from $150 - $230. Which if you get a place that could sleep eight for $200 per night, that's only $50 per person for the weekend. Also I noticed that stuff like the Galaga machine was not advertised in the photos online, so who knows what gems await in any of these places...?

I would kinda be leaning towards Terra Alta based on the $$ but I'm open to other suggestions. Also, from talking to people I think possibly getting two places would be best - that way there's not 30 people crushed into one house, and the folks that are bringing youngins (I know Kat and I were planning on it, as well as Greg and Sarah) have a place where the kids can sleep.

You can tell your wedding is complete, Nick.  You've moved on to planning other activities with the utmost of wordiness and detail.  Smiley  You better get the driving directions right or Crabquest might lay the smack down.
