I'm not tryin' to be all Jeebas up in here, but looking at next summer does anyone have a tentative idea when (I'm assuming there's no "if" at this point) we'd be goin' dahn'ere n@?
We were thinking of reserving a place earlier this year, and since it's getting colder I figured it'd be good for people to think aboot the beach.
Note that July was nicer mosquito-wise than August.

I think we're probably doing the "family" (my folks, brother and sister) beach trip for 2011 - We've been trying to talk them into Chincoteague, but it might be Ocean City for us again.
Oh well we're goin to Puerto Morelos in January anyways

No he said July was nicer than August for the bugs. If he is refering to last year vs. the year before that, it's not the same because they sprayed for bugs last year. But if he is refering to both of those months last year than it makes sense.

I think it was remarked at some point by someone during the trip this year that maybe they spray more in July because its before the Pony Swim, and don't care so much in August - after it.
Either way, the weather was darn near perfect last year - I dunno when we're gonna see a beach week like that again - it only rained the day we got down there - and honestly who was going to the beach that day anyways - and Tuesday morning (I think) and that day it cleared up by the afternoon.
FWIW - I've always found that going to the beach in August puts you more at the mercy of hurricanes and humid oppressive heat

But you pay more for rentals because it's "in season" and more crowds cuz kids are out for summer still.

That looks real nice... We had been thinking of Belize for our honeymoon, but then when www.mayanholidaze.com came about with a bunch of bands we liked we decided to go with that. http://www.aprivateisland.com/babymoon_island_vacation.html - I have never heard the term babymoon before...

I also liked the mid-late August Chincoteague trip, just cause it's kind of like "saving the best for last" when it comes to summer. Also to consider, if anyone is down with a return trip to Lebowskifest, that will PROBABLY be in July again.

Sarah and I were talking and she has to start back to school on 8/22. So, we are looking at 8/6 to 8/13. Have folks given any more thought to this?

Ideally I would prefer July, because of less bugs and less humidity, and I dunno that prices were that much cheaper... But we would rather go when our friends are planning on going AND that week is close enough to July to not really make a difference. So if that's when everyone else is going to go, I guess that week works for us.

The other issue we were thinking about with July is a possible return trip to Lebowskifest. Not that both couldn't be done in the same month, but it might be nice to spread it out. (Especially if YORSP also has a 4th of July weekend show in Ohiopyle again)

And then there's the Pretty Things Peep Show tour to consider.. seems like an interesting tour bus, when it's not being pulled over and searched..

While I understand not wanting to miss LebowskiFest - they don't announce the dates for that shit until early March. They very well could announce that its gonna be on August 5-6 or August 12-13. Though the historical data might suggest otherwise -
July 16-17 2010 July 10-11 2009 July 11-12 2008 July 20-21 2007 Sep 29-30 2006 July 22-24 2005 June 18-20 2004 July 29 2003 Oct 12 2002
It seems kinda silly to write off an entire month for it. But thats just like my opinion man.
On a separate note, I guess there's the concern for those of us with kids, that while we may be able to deal with oppressive heat and rampant bug bites, our children may not be able to as well. The weather, as we all know, cannot be controlled, but I think we all have a pretty good idea of when the bugs are going to be really bad.
That week in July was perfect last year, and while I have said that you really can't expect to get a beach week like that again, part of me is thinking why mess with a good thing?

While I understand not wanting to miss LebowskiFest - they don't announce the dates for that shit until early March. Yeah... We'll obviously want to have shit booked before they announce that, I was also going on historical data and assuming LF will be around the same time as it has been. (Probably July 22-24). If we go for August, and Lebowskifest switches it up too, and creates a conflict, then that just doesn't work out. (BEACH always wins, money/deposit issues aside) That week in July was perfect last year, and while I have said that you really can't expect to get a beach week like that again, part of me is thinking why mess with a good thing? We've gotten pretty lucky the last 2 years. Both last year, and the year before (when we went in August) I don't think there was a day that the weather kept us from the beach. While not quite as good as this last year, I don't remember the bugs being too bad in '09 either. The other reason I also liked August is that it was sort of saving the "best of summer" towards the end. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah, the bugs in '09 were really only terrible if you went golfing and forgot to wear bug spray and waited in a grove of trees by a creek for Nye and Ike Jones to tee off. Then you might've gotten mild heat stroke and vomited by the 9th hole.

I have no preference of when everyone decides to go, just as long as its away from work and I get to go fishing and crabbing. And maybe try boogy boarding again.

Worst 9 holes ever. Also, Ike Jones drove his golf cart onto the green.
