So I don't know if you guys have been following it, but there is a ton of interesting shit going on with NCAA football right now.
USC got a 2 year bowl ban and lost a bunch of scholarships (great way to start the Lane Kiffin era).
Colorado is leaving the Big 12 for the Pac 10 and other Big 12 schools are expected to follow (possibly even Texas).
Nebraska is voting today on whether to join the Big 10 and probably will go. So that's going to kill the Big 12.
There are rumors that the SEC has invited Texas A&M to join, which if true, means that Texas might follow suit and head to the SEC. So it will be really interesting to see what all happens this weekend after the Nebraska announcement is made.

Now they are saying the Big East is in talks with Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State and Missouri about joining. Not going to do too much for Football, but it would be great for Basketball.

If all of this shit starts happening, the Big East could be in some serious trouble dealing with the so called Super Conferences. Best case scenario if that happens is that Pitt and WVU would end up in the ACC.

Yeah I've been hearing this all over the radio since last weekend - I'll be interested to see what affect all of this has on the Big East and the ACC. Then again, none of this would take effect until the 2012 season (I think?)

The former SEC commissioner seems to think that if this results in 5 super conferences that Pitt would end up in the ACC (maybe Big 10) and WVU would become the northern most school in the SEC.

The interesting thing that I heard, is that all of this might end up in more of a playoff scenario for bowl games, which I think would be cool, certainly make me more interested in college football.

Well all of the "super conferences" would have Conference Championship games, the winner of which would get an automatic BCS bowl bid. After that it would probably still be the polls that decide the National Championship.

The bottom line of this whole matter seems to surround schools trying to get more money from TV contracts than they are right now. All of this jumbling around into super conferences isn't going to change anything for your current fan other than split up some rivalries, and that sucks.
It also won't affect the shitty BCS bowl system currently in place, which kind of just makes this whole thing pointless unless you are a school looking to make some bank.

It might split up some rivalries or create some new ones. If WVU would end up in the ACC and Pitt doesn't we would lose the Backyard Brawl (unless it was a non-conference game), but get the Virginia Tech rivalry back.

Still, the backyard brawl is probably my favorite game of the year, so I would be really disappointed to see it go. I don't think Pitt will really have a chance to join the Big Ten, but it would be cool to get the Pitt/Penn St. games back.

Here is tha latest...
Boise State has left the WAC and joined the Mountain West Conference, which starts their push to get a BCS bowl bid (probably the Big 12's).
The NCAA is going to allow USC juniors and seniors to transfer without sitting out a year. That's going to be a HUGE blow to their program. Here's hoping they have a really good junior WR that WVU can pick up.

So Nebraska has officially joined the Big 10 and now the Texas board for regents are set to meet on Tuesday to make decision.
If Texas is going to decide that soon and we haven't heard rumors about the SEC, then I'm inclined to think they're headed to the Pac 10.

Yeah, really.. I mean if he could've steered Pitt to the Beef O'Brady's Bowl that'd be one thing, but clearly that's asking too much.

I'm starting to think that they don't care how they treat their coaches down there. Apparantly the got word that their offensive coach was applying for a job and basically said they were getting rid of him now no matter what. Well atleast we know they will still doing the stupid spread.

Uh no. Jeff Mullen was out of there even if Stew was sticking around as head coach, which is why he was going after the Kent State job anyway. Not the other way around. The only reason that they're trying to install this guy as the offensive coordinator for a year is because Stew says that he won't stand for it and will retire. If Stew doesn't retire they will probably end up firing him and this guy will be head coach next year. The new AD at WVU is pretty ruthless. He has come out of a pro sports management background and wants to run the athletic dept like a business. Too many empty seats and pissed off boosters this season to not make a change.
