Nice... the only thing the kit didn't come with was a brewpot. So hopefully if I can pick that up and some ingredients and get some cleaning done before the weekend, I'll hopefully be taking a stab at it on Saturday.

So I spent my first night of Empty House week removing labels from about 50 beer bottles... fun fun!!

Also for those who enjoyed the Flying Dog Raging Bitch Belgian IPA when Sidelines had it on tap, Save-Mor on Browns Hill Road (http://www.savemorbeer.com/) had like 10 cases of it when I stopped by last night. Man is that stuff good!!!

I got my first batch (IPA) over to the carboy late last week and am planning on bottling either Friday or Saturday. I think I'm gonna start up another batch (thinking about a Red Ale) Saturday as well. Sean, where did you get your wort chiller from?

Didn't $1.50 make that thing?
I know it was in the basement of Oxfield St. for quite some time.

Cool... I had been reading a few things online about DIY wort chillers and that seems to be the most inexpensive option

So the first batch (IPA) turned out pretty decent... Nothing fancy, I am just glad I didn't totally mess it up... If I have some left by AQ Party I'll bring some out... the Red Ale should be good to go by then as well. I'm thinking of doing an IIPA for the next batch, I've been looking at some Stone Ruination IPA clone recipes so that should be fun.

I guess it's cool for people to have access to this kind of stuff, but it makes me think of those fishing charters where they bait the hooks, take the fish off the line, and package the fillets for you.  It's kind of corny, and I don't think people will actually learn much about the brewing process.

Well from the way it sounds, the customer would do all of the brewing and then the bottling, it just seems like they supply the equipment and do all of the cleaning. $100 - $180 per batch is a lot when you figure most ingredients per batch only cost $30-70, but they do have to make money off of it and they do supply all of the equipment. I would also worry about them making sure that all of the customers use proper sanitary measures and don't contaminate the equipment, which from the sound of it would then contaminate other people's batches as well. It's not really that big of a $$ investment to get into brewing, given I don't have an all grain setup, but I probably have spent $200 tops on equipment.

I was confused also because it sounded like their equipment was of a higher capacity, so perhaps for $100 you get more than just 2 cases worth.

The business — which hasn't been named — will start with six copper kettles, each of which holds about five cases of beer. Customers will be able to choose from 30 to 40 recipes, which include all necessary ingredients. The process involves a few hours of measuring, boiling and stirring, followed by a few weeks of waiting while the batch ferments before customers return to bottle their hooch. Prices per brew will range from $100 to about $180.

If each kettle holds five cases of beer, and they only have six to start with, then either one batch = five cases or they're only gonna do six different batches at a time. Actually regardless they could only do 6 at a time. You couldn't dump unfermented wort into other stuff that is already going. So I have to assume one batch = five cases. And I'm also gonna assume that they'd let each batch ferment for at least a week and then age for at least two. They're gonna need way more than six kettles if even a few people are interested in this.

I'm definitely curious to check out how this operates when it opens

Looks like the Shenandoah Brewing Co. in VA operates on the 5 case batch basis - http://www.shenandoahbrewing.com/brewing/prices.html

So I just got an e-mail from Construction Junction and they advertised the Millvale Brew fest.  So, my fear is that all the hipsters that get the CJ email will think, "hey, that's cheap, I should go to that one, too" and they'll sell out.  So, I'd like to procure my ticket sooner rather that sold out.  Does anyone else want to go.  And what is the session preference?
