I found these findings pretty interesting, but at the same time pretty much bullshit. http://www.bizjournals.com/pittsburgh/stories/2009/12/07/daily21.htmlI mean, how many sold out Steelers and Pens games have there been in recent years. I don't think the study is taking the passion of your typical Pittsburgh fan vs. other markets who don't seem to give a shit. If the bucs put a quality product on the field, I'm sure their attendance/revenue would greatly improve as well.

It may be true, but they are here and aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

Definitely- they're a storied franchise and Yinzers will certainly return and spend money on the Bucs once they start to win again... what else are they gonna do in the summer.. catch fish and stink? (Mostly the latter.)

It's a shame.
The Steelers have descended to the Pirates level (at least for this season) in that now the goal is to just try and get a winning season.

They will probably get a chance to knock Baltimore out of the playoff hunt as well. That's something.

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/09348/1020804-63.stmPretty similar to how I feel about the Pirates. I know he hasn't been there that long, but Huntington is clearly just doing the same old bullshit as usual. And sure, you can "hey Rocco" me as much as you want, but how fucking long can you "rebuild" a franchise?

That's how he wants you to feel. He wants to move the team to the warmer climate of Miami, Florida. In order to do this, he must reduce attendance at PNC Park below a total of 800,000 ticket sales, which will void the team's lease with the city of Pittsburgh. After he moves the team, he would also be able to fire all the current players and replace them with new ones. He instructed his new General Manager Charlie Donovan to hire the worst team possible from a list he has already prepared.

And sure, you can "hey Rocco" me as much as you want, but how fucking long can you "rebuild" a franchise? I wouldn't consider ANY of the following that Cook brings up as building blocks, and I'll add Capps to that list. Nate McLouth, Adam LaRoche, Jack Wilson, Ian Snell, Freddy Sanchez and John GrabowI believe that this is the FIRST time that this team has truly been rebuilt. Previous regimes would have come to camp in February with Fatt Capps installed as the undisputed closer. These Pirates look like they would like something approaching competence out of the position. The reason that they didn't "get anything" for him was because everybody that had any interest in him was waiting for the Pirates to release him so they wouldn't have to pay the inflated salary that his miserable 2009 somehow would warrant in arbitration. I understand not wanting to care anymore about the Pirates, but not for the reasons that this "journalist" has written about.

Ron Cook's just worried that with the Steelers out of contention he'll need something else to write about .. so why not stir up the hate and write about the mismanaged buccos for a while.. we'll see how much he 'doesn't care' when he comes out with about 5 more of these 'terrible greedy management' editorial pieces over the next few weeks.

Also, I'm pretty sure that the pitching staff will be taken care of when Rick Vaughn gets out of jail and the Pirates sign him.

While I certainly agree that "Fatt Capps" as you put it had a shit season last year and probably deserves to go, I don't see any moves to make the team any better now. I don't think 2011 will be our year either, as some of the journalists have predicted.
In the end, I hope that I am proven wrong. I really do. I just continue to lose even more faith each year as these different owners/general managers are shipped in and out almost as quickly as anyone with a batting average above .250 or an ERA of 3.00.

The 2009 Mets... a classic example of how high payroll doesn't necessarily translate into a winning team.
