One of the commenters on there made a good point- it's a good sign that there isn't room for those guys on the 40-man roster- in years past they're they kind of guys who management would've picked up to fill holes.. now they're second rate.

So I'm I going to have to leave work early to meet you at a bar. And then tell that bar to order the cable sports package, and have them surprisingly listen so we can watch the first game of the season again?

No.. Adam's got tickets for opening day since they're opening the season at home this year, so I won't need tv to watch the game. I do think, though, that I'll probably hear someone call the Pirates an embarrassment to humanity.

This is pretty funny.. Dejan Kovacevic was compiling a bunch of angry emails he's gotten recently on that blog and posting answers to them, and this one's almost as good as any 'Hey Rocco' call we could make up:
Q: You are all talk and no show. Would you please sell the team to someone who loves the Pirates for what they were for a century before carpetbaggers like you and the McClatchys came to town?
A: I don't own the team. I received another one like that this week, much more threatening, plus another one that included a virus.

They just have the "all you can eat" sections - which cost a bunch more money, and your choices are hotdogs, hamburgers (no cheese), popcorn and nachos.

Last season I discovered that if you hit the all you eat stand after the 8th inning they put all of the uneaten food on the counter for the taking, regardless of whether you paid for it or not. A good way to chuck a few dogs to soak up all of the overpriced watered down beer that was consumed up until that point. Leave it to me to dumpster dive at the ballyard

In an attempt to really dork this thread out, I'd like to present this case study on the importance/yinzer fixation on payroll...
The Florida Marlins have been under investigation from MLB and the players' union because of their low payroll over the past 3-4 years.. I was reading in a PG article that from 2006-08 the Pirates payroll was nearly double what the Marlins' was, so I wanted to verify that and see how that disparity in payroll translated into actual results during each season. So, here's what I found:
Florida Marlins Final Record: 2006: 78-84 2007: 71-91 2008: 84-77 total: 233-252 with 1 winning season avg payroll: $27.07 million
Pittsburgh Pirates: 2006: 67-95 2007: 68-94 2008: 67-95 total: 202-284 with 0 winning seasons avg payroll: $48.52 million
Hmmm.....

No.. you're just an angry fan. I meant Yinzer Jagz. Your skepticism is much less one-sided... Yinzer Jagz just keeps saying he's gonna put his foot up Bob Nutting's ass if he doesn't start shelling out more money.

Also no coincidence that the Marlins improved AFTER Littlefield left them to become the Pirates GM

I listened to Rocco's show on Saturday specifically to hear calls like this one, but unfortunately he was broadcasting live from Piratefest and was not taking any calls from yinzers (jagz) Honestly though, while it would be cool n'at to have Mario as the Bucs owner, I don't think that it would improve the team's lot overall. Baseball's broke, and 'em Nuttings are seemingly doing the right thing given the circumstances.

"Manager Harry Wolverton of the Yankees says that the day of the superstitious ballplayer is over. He doesn't believe in jinxes, good or bad omens, rabbits' feet, swastika signs, or all that ancient baseball lore."
Sounds like a turn of the century Mike Tomlin.
