Quote
In their haste to move up primaries, officials in some states appear to have overlooked ordinary facts of life, such as the weather and the advanced age of many poll workers. Cold northeastern states including Connecticut and New York have encountered problems recruiting poll workers because many senior citizens, a sizable percentage of paid volunteers, are still south for the winter. Snow in the middle of winter also could have an impact, especially if there’s bad weather on one end of a state and good weather on the other.

Paid volunteers?  What's that mean?  I mean, really, isn't everyone who has a job a paid volunteer?  It's not like anyone has a gun to our heads... (unless you're a paid volunteer in the No'side).

I'm imagining that it differentiates them from actual Employees, since having employees means that you are required to follow FLSA and Tax regulations. They are probably either given some type of non-taxable "gift", or are qualified as 1099 subcontractors.

If I was just a "paid volunteer" and not an employee I'd damn sure not give none of that shit to the government (unless it was automatically deducted beyond my control)

That means that you're supposed to claim that as taxable income.

Yeah that was LumberJam, Wino Riot hasn't yet, but someone sent me a 1099... If there are taxes to be paid, well there shouldn't be, but if there are, the band fund is paying for them
