Huh? I had no idea they were moving the location (Hawaii to Miami) and date (week after to week before the Super Bowl) of the Pro Bowl next year.

That's a dumb move for the date IMHO - If by chance, you have Pro Bowl player-laden teams in the SuperBowl next year - there were 8 this year: 3 (Steelers) and 5 (Cardinals) - SB teams aren't gonna send their players to play that game, and if they do, the players will not put all of their best efforts forward. They should have the Pro Bowl a few weeks after the SuperBowl so that, maybe the SB winners could actually have a parade on a weekend for once...

This sheds more light on why they did it - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_Pro_Bowl

Quote
Rosters for the AFC and NFC teams will not be allowed to include any players from the teams that will be playing in Super Bowl XLIV, and as such, the game can thus be considered a "consolation bowl" for the players on the Pro Bowl teams. Coincidentally, the league's original consolation bowl, the Playoff Bowl, was played every year in Miami from 1960 to 1969.

I also agree that this sounds like possibly the stupidest thing the NFL has done.

I'm sure that there is a financial reason for it. The NFL only exists to make money, and they do that better than any other pro sports organization.

I really don't think that the players put out their best efforts in this game as it is... look at how many players back out of the game.

Well yeah that's true, and will be moreso once this is officially a "consolation bowl"

I'd just like to say that I was telling somebody about this and the fact that it was happening next year and they said I was full of shit and that it was probably something that they were just talking about or proposing.  I just can't remember who it was... probably that nitpicker Ponce.

I understand that the Steelers play at Heinz Field, but the URL isn't www.heinzfield.com so this has no business being on the Steelers's website

Quote
Future labor pains

The most depressing aspect of the Super Bowl was all the signs pointing to a work stoppage in 2011.

With commissioner Roger Goodell calling the NFL Players Association claims that the league is prosperous "fiction," the owners seem to be heading toward locking out the players in 2011.

The players won't strike because they want to continue the status quo. The owners want givebacks.

There's always a chance the owners are talking tough and won't really lock them out. They caved in at the last minute in 2006, when they accepted the current deal.

The changes start Feb. 27, when free agency begins with complicated new rules in place to make it more difficult to stay under the cap. Then in 2010, the salary cap will be eliminated and the qualification for free agency jumps from four to six years.

I didn't know they were cutting the salary cap in 2010?

I'd like to put them on DVDs, since I'm pretty sure that we got rid of our VCR when we moved. After Googling it, it looks like you can transfer the MPEG4 video that's on the DVR to a computer via firewire. So I should be able to do that myself.
