Well... still about 45 minutes to go, but it seems like Aerosmith & ZZ Top aren't messing things up TOO bad yet.

Some info on what might be closed and when would have been useful.
My guess is it will probably be shitty.

This is a good development.  Though I imagine the only one who might benefit from it on a regular basis is $1.50

They have a sign up that says the traffic pattern was going to change, and this is exactly what I hoped was going to happen.

That being said Liz accepted a new job today with an office on Liberty Ave dahn tahn, so I'll probably only be taking the West End bridge regularly for 1 more week (then beach, then wabash tunnel -> Smithfield St -> Liberty Ave -> 9th St and the reverse).

It'd be pretty sweet if PennDot collaborated with The Hole In The Wall on a project

I don't think Northbound traffic will use the underpass until October.

Yes it would.

I think that would involve installing a low-tech karaoke system beside all of the emergency call boxes in the turnpike.

If we look at folks' recent success with getting into The Hole in the Wall, we probably wouldn't be able to use the new project.

If I'd known that shit, I might have stopped in for a drink, since I ended up going home that way since parkway traffic was shitty.
It's good to hear of progress on the project overall.

The fact that the project is happening is old news, but apparently it's about to start.  And I think it's gonna be a big pain in the ass.

I doubt they'll schedule anything on those weekends that would really effect it.  They might, but I doubt it.  They're spreading it all out over 15 months, so I'm also hoping that they don't do a lot during rush hours as well.

I don't plan on leaving neighborhood with my car that week...problem is that "my neighborhood" appears to be where protesters have already begun to gather and prepare

Yeah I'm not really confident on what the state of my neighborhood is gonna be like during being that we're directly across the river from the convention center - we've already got homeless people and crackheads - there's no room for protesters.

This was interesting though - http://post-gazette.com/pg/09224/990238-455.stm#ixzz0Nz5wQjP7

Quote
Regardless of the inconveniences, the G-20's impact cannot be overstated, said Bill Flanagan, executive vice president of the Allegheny Conference on Community Development.

"We quantified the market value of the Super Bowl win at $1 billion. I can't even begin to calculate the market value, the global exposure, we're getting from this," he said.

"This opportunity doesn't come our way very often. It's in the whole community's interest to make the most of it, to put up with inconvenience for a couple of days. I think most people are willing to make that sacrifice for the good of Pittsburgh and southwestern Pennsylvania."

Really? $1 billion? How do they even quantify that?

Just the same, the Steelers are keeping their fingers crossed. With rush hour, construction, the game, the casino and a Keith Urban concert at Mellon Arena, the potential for trouble lurks. They won't have to worry about Katie Bernarding of Baldwin Borough. She went to the Rivers on opening day to gamble. But she won't be at the slots venue during Steelers games.

Kim's office is directly on the "parade" route to the convention center.  Despite the fact that she probably won't even be able to get to her building, the state has not made any plans to close or allow the employees to work from home.  Great job looking out for your employees yet again, PA.

Well... if I were to take the Parkway, the traffic queue to the Squirrel Hill Tunnel currently is backed up even before where I get on the parkway.  Fuck that.

28 ended up being fine to Millvale.
However there was a shitty accident on Rt. 130 in Penn Hills that was a pain in the ass.  (though even that could have been worse)

Yeah I had no problems getting home via 28 - In fact leaving at the same time I leave on a normal day taking 376 - and stopping at East End for a growler - I got home earlier than I normally do, and parking wasn't as scarce as I thought either.
