Further proof that PA is turning into a modern day Deadwood w/ this whole gas boom (boom) thing, and Corbett is Al Swearengen: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/11230/1168118-454.stm"Maybe these guys are gentlemen that just spread sexually transmitted diseases, I don't know." ".. Corbett administration downplays impacts created by drilling. Among other things, he suggested the influx of drilling hands has led to the spread of sexually transmitted disease 'amongst the womenfolk.'" I like to think that people around the gas wells are just more sexually active since the lewd images of the drills and pumps around them are stimulating their Unconscious mind and making them randy. Here in 'merica we say horny. What ever, don't you have to go vote for Ron Paul or something?

http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/news/westmoreland/s_757674.htmlLooks like Mt. Pleasant has finally decided that people are capable of pumping their own gas. (Except for 2 days a week)

"Mayor Jerry Lucia is urging all borough residents to report any and all suspicious behavior in their neighborhood."
It's good to see he's still in power- he must have one of those 'mayor for life' deals.. like in Ridgway.

Jim Martin is no longer the mayor-for-life in Ridgway, I honestly don't know who it is now but when the election was going on, the consensus was that Dr. Udarbe was going to win.

I'll assume, though, that Jim Martin retired by choice, and could still be mayor-for-life if he wanted to be. Or maybe the political scene in Ridgway has gotten more contentious... I bet Dr. Udarbe has some kind of radical social agenda... or it's the other end of the spectrum and he took power via military coup, and Ridgway is now a totalitarian state. If that's the case, I bet Keener's involved somehow.

More of a county thing, but it sounds like the reassessments are coming out for Allegheny County and folks are pissed. Now, Mayor Luke says he'll make some mileage adjustment to lower the hit for city residents, but where does that leave most of us non-city of Pittsburgh residents? http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/11363/1199986-53.stm

Yeah, our taxes are slated to go up over 82%. I knew we shouldn't have painted.

Ours are gonna go up around 200%- and we didn't even paint. On the other hand, it was assessed ridiculously low- the assessment the county came up with pretty much agrees with the assessment I had done when I refinanced the mortgage, so I'm thinking I may not have much of an appeal leg to stand on... I was just hoping this flying under the radar thing would last for a while longer.

I think a lot of people agree with the assessment numbers, they're just freaking out about potentially paying a lot more taxes.
If I understand that article correctly, the tax rates should be adjusted to fit the schools budget, or some jounx, so a 2-3x increase isn't likely.

Well, if I had to pick a place where I thought this might be likely to happen, Export would be high on the list http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/s_783040.html

Yeah... I can't disagree with that statement.
But it's a shame that Export has to be linked to such bullshit, when it should be linked to a dive bar that has some good wings.

Probably not if they're hoping to get extra business from out-of-towners this weekend.
