So I went to the kitchen in my office to get some water. And while filling up my cup, the microwave next to the water cooler was on and making weird noises. So, I started thinking, "What if this thing blows up?" and "What if I get killed by the office microwave?" So, I decided to look and see if anyone has ever been killed by a microwave exploding. I found out that since 2002, the Consumer Product Safety Commission reports 35 incidents of microwave glass spontaneously exploding, with five reported injuries. But no deaths... thank god. I can drink water in peace knowing I probably won't be killed by the microwave.

Some lady at my office put a sponge in the microwave for 5 minutes trying to "disinfect it". But the fact that she put it in for such an ungodly long time and that she didn't wet it first turned it into basically a charcoal briquette. The microwave didn't explode, but it did give off a stink that made your eyes burn and set off the fire alarm which alerted the fire dept. Moral of the story: don't bother trying to disinfect a 30cent sponge or you may end up on the darwin awards.
