I decided tht jamaica pretty much sucks. Cozumel is the shit though!

Come one let's hear about the 9 pitchers they picked up.

Ok, since you asked for it.. but you might be too stoned to pay attention.

The guy they took in the second round (Stetson Allie) looks to be potentially as good as Taillon.. but he knows it and it might take up to $3 million to sign him.. so that'd be maybe upwards of $10 million to sign the first two picks.
I did hear some baseball prospectus douche on the radio say that if they did manage to sign both of them that it could be their best draft in like 20 years.. then he said something about that maybe being the pivotal point in the beginning of a championship team, and I stopped listening cause I was worried about getting brainwashed by 'em Nuttings.
They took a centerfielder in the 3rd round, but other than that the first 10 are all young pitchers (all but 1 out of high school) who have a lot of potential.
They won't sign them all.. they seem to be going with a lot of crazy picks in the hopes of signing a handful of them.  Neil Huntington apparently agrees with the old saying 'pitching wins championships'.
It's also much harder to actually get a quality major-league pitcher out of a pitching prospect than it is with a position player, so I think they're hoping that the more they add to the system, the more likelihood there is that they'll actually end up with a few legitimate all-star pitchers on the same team in a few years.

Are you talking about trades they'll make this year, or how they'll trade away good players that come out of the system?

That Strasburg is definitely hot shit.

On the bright side, Brad Lincoln is starting tomorrow, and apparently Jose Tabata is being called up tomorrow too.

I was speaking about trading the multitude of pitchers they picked up, further down the road for any players that they might need to fill a spot.

I'm just curious as to how many of these pitchers they'll actually sign.

The idea that the Buccos pitching would be such a source of depth that they'd be able to do this is crazy to me.. but I see your point.

There's no way they can sign them all.. but it looks like they'll be able to sign Taillon and a decent amount of the other guys.  It sounds like they have some advantage over the high school kids cause by the time they finish college and can re-enter the draft there may be a new collective bargaining agreement, and the rules for signing bonuses may be different (or actually exist).. so they run the risk of losing out on serious $ if they don't sign now.

It would be nice if they could lock down Taillon and Stetson.  No one knows how they'll develop, but guys who can throw accurately around 100mph are few and far between.

See, the problem is that I allowed myself to get emotionally invested in the team...again.  There is really no excuse not to bring up the rest of the prospects now to get a taste of playing in the majors.  We have nothing left this season to forfeit.

It's also nice that they have a 4 million dollar catcher playing first base who can't catch the damn ball.

Seriously he fucking sucks. They should of just let him DH. I don't think he's even that good of a catcher. But that's just like my opinion man.

Your opinion is fairly sound.  His bat is good.. but he was only ever a marginal defensive catcher.. and clearly can't play first base.
I wouldn't allow myself to believe that they'd win yesterday even when Karstens pitched well.. once Lopez came in for the sole purpose of walking Johnny Damon and they tried to bring in Dotel early, I knew Cabrera would hit one out... it took some of the sting out of it when it actually happened.

But, nobody (in their right mind) ever expected the 2010 Buccos to break the streak.. it's rough that the starting rotation has been exactly the opposite of where it needed to be for anything good to happen for this team, but that's baseball.  I refer to the 2009 Mets as your paradigm of getting fucked in the ass by chance. Like Rocco says.. this season was about seeing who might be able to play long-term in the future and where.. and bringing up some young guys and letting them get some expozzure.  At least Tabata looks like a real left-fielder so far.

And he is very injury prone.  Perhaps now is the time to offer him up in a trade to an American League club for the DH role, as we can probably do without him.  Yes, I'm actually serious.

That might happen... but it'll probably be closer to the trade deadline.  Although, this is usually around the time of year he gets injured.. so his value might be highest now.

I was trying to use some of this logic on some oldster from Bloomfield at D'amico's the other night... but he basically took the Ron Cook stance that Huntington is a n'er do well and that all of his trades suck. Oh, and that Nutting is calling the shots like Al Davis. That was actually pretty humorous...

The thing that kills me with all these articles and commentaries is they never say that the trades are in an effort to better the team on the field.  It's always talks about bettering the team on the ledger.  Who cares how much they do/don't spend.  Bring in some W's and I'll start to care.

Speaking of ledgers, did you start saving that $20 you guys will owe me next season?

Half the point is bettering themselves on the field... For the price of two wholly unproductive players, the Pirates received 1-1/2 wholly unproductive players (Cedeno's defense is pretty productive thus far). Saved a buncha loot and received 3 more promising minor leaguers in return.
