As it turns out, the move to bring Iwamura in has become one of general manager Neal Huntington's most costly miscalculations. Needing to open up a roster spot for top prospect Pedro Alvarez, Pittsburgh designated Iwamura for assignment on Wednesday.

Nah nah nah nah, hey, hey, hey, goodbye.

The six errors matched the most by any Pittsburgh team since May 9, 1988.

Great success!

Why do they say any Pittsburgh team?  Given that you can't commit a recorded error in any other sport, it would have to be the Pirates.

I think they meant "Pittsburgh team" as in any "Pirates team". Like when you watch any sport, the announcers will substitute the city name for the team name (i.e. "Pittsburgh's defense has allowed seven 4th quarter comebacks this season" instead of "The Steelers' defense has allowed seven 4th quarter comebacks this season"). It looks weird in print, but makes sense when heard spoken (and especially in context)

Well.. since it looks like Comcast has decided to stop giving me free FSN, I actually went to that game last night.. it was depressing that Alvarez' debut didn't draw- I think there were like 15,000 there.  It was cool to see him even if he didn't do anything great.. and the whole place chanted for him during his first 2 at bats.  I also got to see Tabata hit his first home run.  I also got to see some of the shittiest baseball I've seen in 17 years.

Between the number of errors, and that game they lost 20 to nothing or whatever. This years team is really making the history books! And you had such high hopes.

I still have high hopes... The first third of the season is to evaluate your team. The second third is to make the necessary adjustments. The final third is to sit back and watch how the changes play out on the field. The only thing that might cause them to play any worse than they are right now is trading Maholm.

Oh, and it sounds like Huntington just got a  contract extension, so tonight's sports talk should be pretty ridiculous.

I do think it's strange that these extensions were agreed upon in January but not mentioned until now.

I do like the plan in place, and am optimistic that it will work. But they certainly are awkward at time with shit like this...

Exactly.  They could have mentioned these extensions prior to the current losing streak when there was a little more optomism.  I think that the placement of this announcement is frankly assanine.  It's kind of like, "Hey, y'all diggin' this losin' streak?  Great, 'cause these guys will be around to keep it going for at least another year."

'Pirates spokesman Brian Warecki on Friday night said, "While we cannot discuss the specifics of the dismissal, we can say that a part-time employee serving a suspension for a previous violation of company policy was terminated for committing yet another violation of company policy."'

So the guy was already suspended- and I'm sure they have some written policy about not making disparaging remarks about the ball club that he signed when he was hired, which he violated.. then his mom called the Post Gazette and bitched about it and the Post Gazette was really happy to get a lead on some more Pirates-bashing, especially right now.

What I don't understand is if the guy wanted to talk shit on the Pirates and still keep his job, why didn't he call Rocco under a pseudonym or just post anonymously on a blog or something?  Just another example of Facebook stupidity.

If this happened to one of the Nationals' racing presidents I'd like to think the headline might be "Teddy Roosevelt Impeached".
