http://science.nasa.gov/science-news/science-at-nasa/2011/24jan_solarsail/I find it funny that the theory behind solar sails has been in place since like 1901 and in Science Fiction since 1950. Sunjammer comes to mind. Hopefully this means sometime in the future we will have space pirates! Now we just need to work on a photon laser to shoot at the sails.

I don't think you even need the laser, I think the idea is to ride the solar winds out of the solar system, takes a long time to accelerate but once you get out of the inner solar system you've got a good speed. One of Manifold Trilogy books had an alien species that comes to earth using those and they had to use some crazy maneuvers to enter the solar system.

Yeah the photon laser would just allow easier handleing or else you would always have to have the back of your sail towards the nearest sun/star. 1/10th the speed of light with like a 100 mile sail wouldn't be too bad. The real question is what happens when you hit dust particles at that speed? You'll need some sort of magnetic sheild/force field to protect the craft.

SWTOR came or today, but since I fight get any an anniversary gift, I doubt she'd be happy if I got it.

Let me translate, The new multiplayer star wars game came out today. But Amy would probably be upset if I bought it because I didn't buy her a Anniversary Gift.
Atleast that's what I think he meant to say.

That's what I got out of it.
SWTOR = 'Star Wars: The Old Republic', usually pronounced 'swo-tor'.
The more you know ******

I was watching YO gabba gabba the other day. Which may be my new favorite show. When this came on. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TD9x6M4ht40Apparantly each episode has a new beat you can learn from BIZ. Good thing too. I mean who needs to learn a second language when you can learn how to beatbox and spit on people.

I hope they go to football games with this sign, but put a "Manning" sticker over "McCongress": (image 5 of 10 from http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-732609 if it doesn't show in the forums for you).
